As part of a series of events to re-engage Bristol with its high streets, an original film created by Compass, ‘Oracles in Sepia’, screened on repeat in the shop window of Glitch Studio on Old Market Street for 3 nights.
In 2020, Compass Presents created ‘Oracles in Sepia’ a short film composed entirely of archive footage. The film seeked to explore the moment of loss, connection, and protest that we found ourselves in during that time. It was launched online for free in October 2020, and made available to watch as part of a live, on-street installation and performance in Bristol in 2022.
In addition to the film screening on a loop from the shopfront, Bristol based visual artist DJ Cheeba also delivered a special live ‘VJ’ performance from the shop window. Taking the original archive clips used in the film, as well as local footage of protests and celebrations in Bristol, DJ Cheeba remixed these images live alongside an electronic live set for passers by to enjoy.
Remixing The Archives was supported by the ‘Welcome Back’ Fund and Bristol UNESCO City of Film in partnership with Bristol Ideas as part of Film 2021, funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund.
