As part of the Bristol Summer of Film takeover, Compass Presents ran a screening of ‘Summer of Soul’, the ‘‘greatest concert film of all time’, a documentary that captures the magic of the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival in NYC.
Audiences were invited to don their flares, and to stay on after the film for an underground party where Bristol’s rich musical heritage takes centre stage. Journeying from R&B and soul classics, moving through to the infectious sounds of funk and disco, our DJ’s took audiences on a sonic journey that transcends genres, fusing film with music. We came together in the unlikely location of an underground car park in the Galleries shopping centre to celebrate the music, artists and culture that sprang from 60s Harlem and landed under a glitterball in downtown Bristol.
We love transforming unusual locations into immersive screening spaces, and organising a good old fashioned party to celebrate culture. Get in touch to discuss bookings or commissions for expanded screening events and celebrations : [email protected]
