A day-long celebration of the remarkable 100-year journey of 16mm film, in the quirky and gothic surrounds of St John’s Crypt, nestled in the heart of Bristol.
Participants were invited to immerse themselves physically in the world of 16mm film, through a series of workshops where they explored the art of splicing, dicing, and projecting this iconic format. Throughout the day, we showcased a curated selection of classic avant-garde 16mm films ranging from the silly to the absurd.
The day finished with a unique live music performance from ambient techno artist Surgeons Girl, mixing music live in response to a 16mm film projected by Hogge. This final performance brought together nostalgia and innovation in celebration of the enduring legacy of 16mm film.
100 Years of 16mm was part of Bristol UNESCO City of Film’s Summer Film Takeover. It was produced by Compass Presents as part of Cinema Rediscovered Festival, a Watershed project.
