An interactive, multimedia sculpture exhibition

Creative City Portals is a multidisciplinary exhibition exploring the cultural heritage of the global cities that make up the UNESCO Creative Cities network. Using archive and contemporary footage from across the globe it reflects the UNESCO creative city  themes— of Craft & Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Art, and Music — revealing interesting cultural differences and universal features.

The installation comprised interactive sculptures made from repurposed objects, engaging new materials to reflect the themes.. Within each sculpture, audiences discover a video montage of archive and contemporary footage on each theme, edited to music in a playful and surprising way. Sculptures can be touched, played with, and listened to!

The installation was produced by Compass Presents in collaboration with Kraków-based artist Tomasz Bugajski for the UNESCO Creative Cities Network XII Annual Meeting, “Creative Crossroads,” in Katowice City of Gardens in 2018.

What They Said

It’s a very creative way of wrapping digital imagery of the city into this interactive superstructure, kind of on a small scale, that symbolically or physically represents what brings all the cities together in an interesting way.
