Creative City Portals is a multidisciplinary exploration of the cultural heritage of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Using archive and contemporary footage from across the Network it reflects the UNESCO creative themes – of Craft & Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Art and Music – revealing interesting cultural differences and universal features.

The installation features interactive sculptures made from repurposed objects, engaging new materials to bring together the diverse meanings and connotations of the Creative Cities. Within each sculpture, audiences discover a video montage of archive and contemporary footage on each theme, edited to music in a playful and surprising way.

The installation was produced by Compass Presents in collaboration with Kraków-based artist Tomasz Bugajski for the UNESCO Creative Cities Network XII Annual Meeting, “Creative Crossroads,” in at Katowice City of Gardens on the 15th June 2018.

Natalie Moore, Bristol UNESCO City of Film

“In one word, stunning. Really stunning…Creative 100%.”
